I’ve loved him as long as I can remember. The gangly boy with big brown eyes and unruly hair who grew up into an intoxicating man. He wears scruff like he invented it and ambles with a swagger that makes panties drop. Killian Shepard. Shep. We grew up together. We played Ghost in the Graveyard. Had our own rock band. It didn’t matter that he was five years older than me. It didn’t matter that he looked at me as a kid sister even as I grew into woman. It didn’t even matter when he left me behind to go to college and start his adult life. He’d be back. He was always meant to be mine. He came back, all right. But instead of smelling of promises, he stunk of betrayal. And he destroyed me-us-the day he married my sister instead of me. So I did the only thing a girl like me in my position could do. I got my revenge. I married his brother, Kael. Now we’re one big happy f**king family.

I had so many feels in this book. I swooned. I cried. I laughed. I was torn and shattered, and I loved every single second of it. I loved it from the first page to the last, and I absolutely adored the characters brought to life so masterfully and beautifully by, what is now, one of my favourite authors. I had not read one of K.L Kreig’s books before this, and I am shocked at myself that I haven’t before now. But, boy am I glad I finally did. I can’t think of many authors who can coax the emotions out of the reader like this book did. This is one of those stories that will stay with you. It will leave its mark on you because of the impassioned love affair and forbidden fruit that is so delicately and skillfully written. You won’t be able to walk away without the characters still living within you.

“I know its soon, Swan. But at the same time, it isn’t. I’ve been by your side our entire lives. No one knows you better than me. You breathe, so do I. You hurt, I ache. When you smile… fuck Mavs, it’s hard to see through the stars blinding me. Every time you laugh, I fall a little more in love with you, if that’s possible. I want to be with you until we’re grey and wrinkled and don’t give a shit if what we say offends people. No one will love like I do, Swan. Your soul belongs to me. Everything you need is here, staring right at you. If you’re not ready, I understand. But know that I’ll be waiting. I’ll wait as long as it takes. As long as you need. But if you are… then put me out of my misery and be my wife. I promise you won’t regret a single second of our life together”

“What way am I looking at you?” I prompt again, letting my eyes fall purposefully to the hardness which now seems to strain for me. The sound of the metal can meeting wood beneath his feet doesn’t even faze me. He strides – no, ambles – with the grace of a jaguar to where I’m waiting for his answer. Desperately wanting it. Spreading his legs wide, he bends, props his knees against my chair. Then his palms meet the armrests and he leans down until his nose is a whisper away from mine. My eyes have to strain to keep him in focus, that’s how close he is. “It’s the way I’ve imagined you looking at me my entire life, Maverick”

This was the first book I have read by K. L Kreig, but it will not be the last, I am already searching for my next read, and there are several to choose from. I just finished this book, and I am still basking in the after glow of it. I don’t have all the frilly words to describe it, but I had to get this review done as soon as possible because you NEED to read this book. This is going to sound so clichéd, but I don’t give a crap. It was Romance at its finest; It was the way you want it to be, sweeping you up and enfolding you in that wonderful warmth.

About K.L. Kreig: As a USA Today Bestselling author, I write stories that are deeply emotional with flawed characters, because humans ARE flawed and if we read about perfect characters living in their perfect world, first of all, snoozer, but secondly, we never experience the gratification of redemption.

Outside of writing, I’m just a regular ol’ Midwest girl who likes Game of Thrones and am obsessed with Modern Family and The Goldbergs. I run, I eat, I run, I eat. It’s a vicous cycle. I love carbs, but there’s love-hate relationship with my ass and thighs. Mostly hate. I like a good cocktail (oh hell…who am I kidding? I love any cocktail). I’m a huge creature of habit, but I’ll tell you I’m flexible. I read every single day and if I don’t get a chance…watch the hell out. My iPad and me: BFFs. I’m direct and I make no apologies for it. I swear too much. I love alternative music and in my next life I want to be a bad-ass female rocker. I hate, hate, hate spiders, telemarketers, liver, acne, winter and loose hairs that fall down my shirt (don’t ask, it’s a thing).
